Abstract

Summary. Currently, the attention of scientists and practitioners is attracting thyroid diseases associated with endemic foci of iodine deficiency in soil and water. Iodine deficiency diseases are among the most common non communicable human diseases. Most often the pathology of the thyroid system is accompanied by hypothyroidism syndrome, which is caused by insufficient production of thyroid hormones and peripheral disorders of their action. One of the targets of endocrinological pathology is periodontal tissue.
The aim of the study was to study the prevalence and intensity of periodontal tissue diseases in young people on the background of primary hypothyroidism.
Мaterials and methods. 330 people aged 25–44 years were surveyed to achieve this goal. Of the total number of people surveyed, 195 (59.09 %) were diagnosed with primary hypothyroidism (group I). 135 people (40.91 %) of the examined endocrinological pathology were not detected, they made up the second group.
Results. Аccording to the data obtained, in group I patients with hypothyroidism of periodontal disease revealed 85.13±2.55 % of the examined, p < 0.01. In persons without endocrinological pathology, periodontal diseases were observed in 69.63±3.97 % of the examined patients, which was 1.2 times less than the data of group I. Intact periodontal in patients of group I was found only in 14.87±2.55 % of persons, while in group II of patients with healthy periodontal was 2 times more (30.37±3.97 %, p < 0,01). In the structure of periodontal diseases, generalized periodontitis of initial–I and II stage of development prevailed.
Сonclusions. As a result of the conducted researches, in patients with hypothyroidism of young people were found significantly higher prevalence and intensity of periodontal tissue diseases in comparison with persons without endocrinological pathology in all age groups. With age, deterioration of periodontal tissues in both groups was observed, but in patients with hypothyroidism, the intensification of the revealed features of early dystrophic inflammatory lesion of the periodontal and its rapid progression was investigated. The relationship between the intensity increase and the generalization of the pathological process in periodontal tissues in young people and the duration of thyroid pathology were found.
Key words: primary hypothyroidism, young persons, periodontal disease.
